We got up early and after a good breakfast, went to the airport to fly to Axum. Just a short way from the airport, we stopped to look out to the mountains of Adwa, up near the border with Eritrea. It is a lot drier here, and warmer. Fikre told us how the Italians had tried to take over Ethiopia. back in the early 1900's. They came down to Adwa where they were met and soundly defeated by the Ethiopians under Menelik II.As usual, a group of children came running up to see us and I shook a lot of small hands. Kids are wonderful! They are so open and curious.
