Lalibela and the stone churches

In Lalibela, churches have been carved out of the solid rock of the mountains. Although there are many legends about the construction of the churches, there is no clear evidence of how they were built. It illustrates the amazing things that people can do when they are very motivated. To protect the church, a big roof has been placed over it.

This picture shows The side of the church. The pillars as well as the church were originally carved out of the rock, but as they eroded, they were repaired.

The next picture shows another side of the church and Fikre is explaining some of the characteristics.
