

We drove out of town on a good road and then turned off on what appeared to be pretty much a cattle, sheep, goat and people trail, and headed into some absolutely beautiful countryside as the photo shows. The picture on the left shows the monastery, which is at the right of the picture on the right. The caretaker is at the right of the picture. He had a deformed leg and used the stick as a crutch. With it he could go up the steep mountain trails twice as fast as we could with two good legs. Notice the sign near the middle of the picture. Let's take a closer look at it.

That's right! No women allowed! We men hiked on up to the monastery and to a building at the left, where all the old documents were stored. Of course, every time we are in a church or associated building, we take our shoes off.
