Las Cañadas

    We went last evening to visit Pedro Velasco at his house in Las Cañadas. It is a beautiful place in a valley with hills all around a bit northwest of here. The picture really doesn't do it justice. We watched a beautiful red-headed flycatcher flitting here and there for insects. Squirrels and birds were in the palms overhead, eating seeds and dropping the shells on the roof. It was peaceful watching shadows come across the valley.

Life is Community

    We went overs to Tlaquepaque for supper the other night. We didn't go to the main part of town, the part with many stores, where tourists love to go. We drove down narrow streets where there were often people on th sides of the streets, sitting in chairs, perhaps eating at a taco stand, but always talking, always visiting, always enjoying life. We went to my favorite restaurant. We call it Santo Degollado. I'm not sure if that is the correct name, since there is no sign which gives the name. There is a long table at the edge of the street where people can sit. At one end is a fryer and the man stands there, cooking and cooking and cooking as people come and go. We sat at one of the tables inside and enjoyed good food and something to drink as well. Ordinary people, ordinary food....I so enjoy these simple places and these simple people.

Heading east

We stopped at a caseta de cobro along the highway. There was a group over at the side advertising  Michoacan, showing off characteristics of the area. This is a picture of a group doing a Michoacan dance. They appear rather close together because I took it from a distance with a telephoto.




I snapped a picture of an interesting house as we were driving down the road.

Zapopan, again

We flew down to Guadalajara last Wednesday. It was a good trip all the way, with no problems. Ricardo and Adelina were here until Saturday morning when Don took them to be with their mother.
Friday evening, we went to another school to watch Adelina play basketball. Here is a picture of her with me.
